Vintage Photography played an imperative role in the development of the
West. They provided a concrete and realistic window to the rest of the world.
For example, the United States Congress approved funding for the first National
Park, Yellowstone, after seeing visual representation in photos taken by
William Henry Jackson. Photography itself represented the burgeoning
innovativeness made necessary by the pioneering spirit of the late 19th
Century. Photographs by L.A. Huffman, Christian Barthelmas, Evelyn Cameron,
Edward Curtis, F.J. Haynes, William Henry Jackson, Fred Miller, Stanley Morrow
and Richard Throssell, to name a few, captured on film the images what would
later define the American West - extensive herds of buffalo & wild horses,
cowboys & round ups, traditions of the Native Americans, and settlements
that would become great cities.
Thomas Minckler Fine Art has been responsible for acquiring the most extensive
collection of frontier photographer L.A. Huffman. It was appropriately placed in the hands of one of
the most prestigious Western institutions, the Buffalo Bill Historical Center
in Cody, Wyoming. This collection is unprecedented in that it not only includes
the photographs but the correspondence of the photographer and his studio
effects.
Our inventory is a reflection of an era gone by; original stereocards,
tintypes, Carte de visites, albumin prints and glass plates.
